Compliance note

Training that supports WHL's compliance position

The Information Commissioner's Office is the UK data protection regulator.

The regulator expects organisations to provide induction and refresher training for staff who handle personal information. This includes training on data sharing, information security, personal data breaches and records management.

This training supports WHL's compliance position by helping colleagues understand how to handle data safely, recognise incidents and personal data breaches, report concerns quickly, and apply the right Information Governance route.

Insufficient or out-of-date training can increase the risk of a personal data breach and may breach UK GDPR Articles 5(1)(f) and 32.

Training staff to recognise and escalate personal data breaches also supports the organisation's ability to meet breach-handling duties under UK GDPR Articles 33 and 34.

The overall message

This training is not a legal lecture.

It helps WHL colleagues recognise when data needs attention, when to involve Information Governance, and how to keep data use proportionate, safe and compliant across the programme.

Information Governance is not here to slow delivery down. It helps colleagues spot issues early, protect information, avoid repeated work, reduce delays, and use data in a way that residents, boroughs, suppliers, partners and regulators can trust.
